A chimney cake (Kürtőskalács in Hungarian) is a Transylvanian pastry first documented in 1784, wrapped in ribbons around a wooden spit and slowly rotated as it bakes until the sugar caramelises into a crisp golden shell. The hollow cylinder shape gives the cake its English name, it looks like a chimney.
